I installed Open Indiana on a virtual system a while ago. It works well, but I need to do a lot of tweaking to make it work the way I wanted it. I use it to test operating system shell scripts which has been the bulk of its use this week. I work with many installations of the software that my company provides that are deployed in SPARC systems running Solaris. However rather than buying an used SPARC station, this is a convenient option.
Open Indiana is also free to use, you can check it out at their website: http://openindiana.org.
Men at work
Work has been busy for the past few weeks, but it seems that it is letting a bit at the end. I still need to take care of documenting some work items that I have postponed due to other priorities. Tomorrow seems to be an excellent day for that. It is also Friday!
Paddles! 1... 2... 3... Clear!
The Lubuntu upgrade went well, but not without moments of excitement. I left the netbook overnight during the upgrade. In the morning the machine was in limbo. After a hard reboot I noticed that the system was not recognizing the trackpad and the on board WIFI.
Darned.
I took it downstairs to the home office and plug it to the LAN. Well, it seem that the process was waiting for a response in regard to my OpenVPN configuration. I answered and set the system to reconfigure the repositories. Thankfully when it completed, everything went back to normal. Not without entertaining thoughts of using the netbook to play Ultimate Frisbee.
